Detect lead poisoning

Lead is a naturally occurring inorganic element and has been used since ancient times in everything from piping, paint, and more recently, gasoline. Exposure to lead can cause long-term health problems – especially in the brain, blood, and central nervous system.

One of the primary purposes of the creation of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 was to reduce the exposure to lead the average worker receives every day. While lead has been minimized in the production of new materials, older lead products still exist, and it is our job to test if you have elevated levels of lead in your bloodstream.

SCT Medical Clinic offers routing lead physicals to check for lead exposure. These physicals are done following OSHA standard 1010.1025.

During your exam, the provider will review your lead exposure history and draw blood to evaluate for signs of increased lead exposure. The blood tests to be ordered will be blood lead level with zinc protoporphyrin, a complete blood count, a blood urea nitrogen, serum creatinine, and routine urinalysis with microscopic evaluation.

If your test shows elevated exposure to lead, it is recommended to remove contact with any sources of lead.

While some of the effects of exposure are reversible, such as damage to the blood and kidneys, damage to the central nervous system is not and it is critical to prevent further damage to eliminate your exposure risk.

SCT Medical Clinic can help. The effects of lead poisoning are cumulative – so don’t delay in scheduling your test.
