What are BCI and FBI background checks?

A BCI background check is performed by the state of Ohio, whereas an FBI background check is performed by the federal government. Both background checks are performed to search for criminal records.

Applicants will need to reference the reason code for their background check in their applications. Those codes can be found by visiting the following links:

*It may take up to 30 days to receive results for either of the background checks.

Thorough background screening

If you need to verify a qualified applicant’s history before hiring, contact SCT Medical Clinic today! We run complete and qualified background checks through both the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Investigation (BCI) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The goal of both checks is the same – to check an applicant’s history to see if they have been convicted of any felonies. The background check will also search for credit history and fingerprints to confirm identity. SCT can also provide background checks that are necessary to obtain a security clearance.

Why do I need a background check?

If you’ve never completed a background check through either the BCI or the FBI – it can be an intimidating process. However, this is a typical and necessary process for many employers including federal agencies, public or private schools, local law enforcement, and independent contractor positions.

If you’ve never been convicted of a felony this type of security check is nothing to worry about and these checks are a routine part of determining who is qualified for working in environments that require access to private information.
