Ohio BWC's Drug Free Workplace
SCT Operations' Ohio BWC Drug-Free Workplace Training Services educate organizations about the importance of maintaining a drug-free environment and provide the necessary resources to create effective workplace policies.
Our training programs are designed to comply with Ohio's Bureau of Workers' Compensation's (BWC) Drug Free Workplace Program requirements while also fostering a culture of awareness and support. Through our educational approach, we aim to empower employers and employees alike to work together in promoting a healthier, safer workplace.
Supervisor Training
The DFWP Supervisor Training offers a comprehensive overview of supervisory responsibilities within a drug-free workplace framework, ensuring that supervisors are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to support a safe environment. Participants will receive in-depth instruction on the company's policies, as well as the impact of substance use on workplace dynamics, safety, and employee well-being. The curriculum also covers effective communication strategies for addressing substance-related concerns, empowering supervisors to foster a culture of openness and support.

Employers are mandated to provide a minimum of two hours of training for all supervisors in the first year of the program, followed by an annual one-hour refresher course.

Employee Training
The DFWP Employee Training includes an overview of the company’s drug-free policy, ensuring that employees understand guidelines and expectations. Participants learn about the most commonly used substances in Ohio and the potential dangers of drug use on the job, which can significantly impact safety and productivity. Additionally, attendees are educated on the signs and symptoms of substance abuse, enabling them to identify issues among colleagues and encourage early intervention.
Employers are required to provide at least one hour of drug-free workplace education for all employees each program year, which is essential for fostering a safe and informed workplace culture.

What is the Drug Free Workplace Program (DFWP)?The Drug-Free Safety Program (DFSP) in Ohio is designed to help employers create a safer workplace by addressing substance use and misuse. The program offers multiple levels of participation: Basic level - Employers participating at the DFSP Basic level are eligible for a 4-percent premium rebate as long as they satisfy all Basic level requirements. See DFSP requirements below. Advanced level - Employers participating at the DFSP Advanced level are eligible for a 7-percent premium rebate as long as they satisfy all basic program requirements. Comparable programs - Employers implementing a program comparable to the DFSP are not eligible for a premium rebate. However, Ohio law requires all companies - in state or out of state - that want to bid or work on state of Ohio public improvement/construction projects to have a drug-free program no matter how many employees they have. This applies to contractors and all levels of subcontractors who provide labor on a state project or supervise workers on state construction sites. Even employers with no employees must have at least a drug-free program in place that meets the DFSP Comparable requirements specified below. Source: Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation
